Feeling Untalented

Have you ever wondered what God is trying to teach you? What He's trying to tell you? what He expects of you?

Sometimes it's hard to listen to God and understand what we should be doing with our lives. Sometimes it is hard to have direction and know which path is best. Lately I feel as though I'm not sure where God wants me. This semester at college has been the hardest one yet. I thought with taking classes related to my major (graphic design) I would be having the best semester, but it's been so much worse than I thought. Lately I've been feeling like I am not called to be a graphic designer. Teachers I've had this semester have just made me feel so untalented and I just don't seem as creative as other people. It has left me feeling untalented and questioning my major.

Maybe you are experiencing something in your life that is similar. Maybe you feel like you aren't talented, accepted or well-known for what you do. Maybe people have been putting you down or you just don't feel like you qualify. Others have so many expectations for you and you just don't feel like you can measure up. Maybe you have so much pressure on your life right now that you just can't take it anymore. You are tired of feeling pressured into needing to be skilled in a certain area. You just want to enjoy using your talents and not have to worry about others questioning your abilities or grading you on whether you are good enough.

Some people in this life just like to ruin people's dreams and hopes. Some people have their own ideas, opinions and ways and they don't mind telling others what they think. They don't care who they hurt or whose dreams they crush. They don't see that God gave you those special talents, passions and abilities to glorify Him. God gave you talents to make you feel special, use them for His glory and that you might enjoy certain passions in life. It was never to be popular, never to be boasted about, never to be judged, and never that you should feel pressured or worried about.

So don't worry if other people don't see the talents within you. Don't worry if people tell you that you aren't talented in a certain area. Not everyone sees your abilities. Not everyone looks at your life and sees how much you are passionate about something. People often don't see your drive, hard work and effort. Nobody can tell you that you aren't talented in something except God. God gave you the gifts you have and He is the only one who has the right to tell you that you aren't qualified to do something. He has blessed you with so many abilities and talents. You may not see them, but they sure are there!

So don't doubt your talents. Don't worry what others say. Only focus on what God says to you- "YOU are worthy, YOU are talented, YOU are skilled. Don't let others look down on your abilities. Remain strong. Believe in who I have made you. Don't let others steal your joy and passion. Strive to make the best you can be. Work hard and use the talents I have given you to inspire others and brighten your own life."

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
Romans 12:6-8

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive and inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Colossians 3:23-24

  1. I can never fully express how much gratitude I have for this post - it was posted on the right time (our exams just finished and I'm being anxious), and it made me sigh of relief; I actually felt calm for a minute or two. Thank you, and keep doing what you do; this is what God wants you to do - encouraging, and heck, graphic designing!
