Mercy and Grace- what is the difference?

I had recently heard this definition of mercy and grace by Dr. David Jeremiah and I thought it explained it so nicely.

Grace gives us what we don't deserve.
Mercy withholds from us what we do deserve.
Grace takes us to heaven.
Mercy keeps us out of hell.

According to Romans 3:10-12 and 23 it states that we are all sinners and we are all in need of God's mercy and grace-

As the Scriptures say,
“No one is righteous—
    not even one.
 No one is truly wise;
    no one is seeking God.
All have turned away;
    all have become useless.
No one does good,
    not a single one.”
For everyone has sinned;
we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

So there we have it, nobody deserves to go to heaven and without God sending His precious Son for us to die we wouldn't be able to go to heaven. We all deserve to go to hell, but God is so gracious and merciful that He gave us a second chance and He gave us a gift of eternal life with Him (our Creator) forever in paradise.......will you accept the gift or will you reject it?

  1. Great post, Britt....and I agree, a really good definition. I have already chosen to accept my chance from God, and I know He will always be there and give me that grace and mercy, for I need it badly sometimes. But I know He gives it freely to those who believe in Him, even though we do not deserve it. Great post!!!
