When Life Feels Like a Disappointment

Do you ever take a look at your life and analyze who you are? I mean a deep look at yourself. Your heart. Your emotions and who you are way deep down inside.

Looking back I saw myself differently than I do now. Sometimes I look back over my life and see myself stronger back then. I look at myself now and see someone who is losing hope. I'm lacking drive and motivation that I once had. I feel worn and tired of trying. My life right now feels so aimless and haphazard. I don't know where I'm going and the future is unstable. To put it frankly, I've been a mess and my life feels like a disappointment.

I feel like I've been asking God for direction and seeking Him to provide certain things in my life, but I'm left with empty hands, closed doors and wondering how much longer until something opens up. I'm losing hope and a drive to keep going and I feel myself slowly giving up. I am disappointed in my motivation slowly failing and also where my life has led.

Looking at my life now it seems like a dead end, but life has seemed that way before and God somehow made a way. God always will make a way when things seem impossible. It may require waiting and reliance on God, but in the right time, God will provide. We may not be able to get it through on our own strength, but God is always there to help us through. He is our hope and our drive. When we feel like we are worn and discouraged, He will restore us and bring us up once again. When we don't feel worthy or worthwhile, we are reminded that God loves us just how we are, no changes or alterations.

When you feel like your life is unsuccessful or unproductive, look at your life with God's perspective. How much of your life are you dedicating to your eternal home and not your earthly one? Focus on what truly matters and seek God to guide you where He wants you with your life. Use your life for more than just a salary or recognition. It's not about being the best or having it together, it's about using what you have the best you can and making the most of what God has given you.

If you are feeling lost or broken, seek God and ask Him to provide for you and direct you. Ask for strength and motivation. Go to Him with whatever you may be doing today, no matter if you think you need the help or not, and ask God for His guidance and direction. Often we forget how much we need God involved in our daily tasks, no matter how small or petty they may be. Things may be difficult and the waiting may seem overbearing, but God is teaching us something amazing with wherever we are right now in our lives. It may be easy to grow disappointed with your life, but God can use our greatest disappointments and drawbacks to help us grow and discover things we never could if our lives were how we dreamed they'd be. God is using your disappointments for something amazing, give them over to Him, step back and let Him lead the way.

Luke 16:10
Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.

Jeremiah 29:13
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

I John 5:14
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

  1. This was very encouraging to read Britt! Your post made me think of a quote from Harriet Beecher Stowe: "When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you until it seems that you cannot hold on for a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time when the tide will turn."
