Unfair Treatment

There are times in all of our lives where we don't understand what God is trying to teach us. We wonder why we go through things. We question why God makes our days hard and brings trying circumstances into our lives.

Lately in my life I have been having a hard time with the authority in society. I have been asking God why is everyone in authority so cruel and takes advantage of their position? Why do people think that since they have a "title" that they have the ability to take advantage of other people and treat them like dirt? It truly irritates me and makes me question how they even hold their position. Lately it seems like those in authority out there in the world do not do their jobs effectively and could care less about others since they view themselves as so "high and mighty." They make themselves out to be some great person, but in fact, don't live up to the title that they are given.

Tonight while reading my Bible I read about submitting to authority. Yeah, I know just what I felt like reading! But it really challenged me and reassured me that even though people take advantage of their high rank, their mistreatment is not getting overlooked. God sees! Here are some of the verses that spoke out to me.....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I Peter 2: 18-25
Submit to your authority, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is concious of God.
But if you suffer for doing good and endure it, this is commendable before God. To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps.
When they hurled their insults at Him, He did not retaliate; when He suffered He made no threats. Instead He entrusted himself to the one who Judges justly.
Galatians 2: 6-7
As for those who seemed to be important- whatever they were, makes no difference to Me; God does not judge by external appearance- those men added nothing to my message.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

These verses really spoke to me and made me realize that those people who take their position in society and use it inappropriately are not getting away with what they are doing. Their wrong acts and mistreatment is taken into account. God specifically tells us through these verses that our determination and humble attitude when dealing with these types of people is commendable and is noticed. God appreciates a person who submits to authority, even when it is unfair. He blesses those who submit and admires the determination and love you show, despite their unkind and mistreatment.

Being mistreated by authority is never easy and often they take advantage of our "lowly rank" but God sees the effort and love it takes to remain humble and respectful to the authority in your life. He will bless you for all the heartaches and distresses they cause in your life.

Often those in authority are the ones who we have to go to most; the ones we need the most approval from and the ones who determine our success, but don't ever doubt your abilities. Those who are in authority are not the ones who will determine your success- God is! He is in control of all things. It may seem like those people are controlling your happiness and your life, but they are created with the same purpose as you. They may put on an act and may have a lengthy title to their name, but in reality they are a person just like you. God created us all equal. We are all the same in God's eyes and we all are special to Him! We all have potential and we all are talented.

Don't ever let someone tell you that you aren't worth it or you aren't talented. That's not their place to judge- that's God's. If you have a desire within you to do something and you feel God is leading you to it, don't let anyone tell you to give up on that calling. So many people make us doubt our abilities and goals. Those in authority make us feel like we aren't qualified. But when you have a willing heart, a inner drive and you feel God's calling for you to do something, I believe you should do it with all your heart! Don't care if other people don't think you're good enough, as long as you enjoy it, you're doing your best and you are doing it for God I think that's all that matters.

So all that to say, don't let the authority in your life control your happiness and make you feel unqualified. They think they know everything since they are put in a high place, but truly God's the only one who is above all of us. We all are sinners and we aren't perfect. God's the only one who should be judging. Authority can be hard to submit to, but when we do we are admired and commended by God. He thinks you are doing a great job when you are submissive and respectful to the unfair treatment you get from others and those in authority. Keep it up! Because Someone up there is watching and He sees!

  1. I SO needed to hear this right now. I have been struggling with the same thing lately, submitted to authority that gives me unfair treatment, and it is REALLY hard. Especially when it seems to effect your future. I love what one book I was reading once said,

    " No matter how unfair authority may seem, we are responsible for our response"

    Something like that.

    Thanks again for the reminder Britt! Hang in there, I'm with you! :)

    Ciao,
    Natalie xoxo
