Feeling Inadequate?

Some days I get so overwhelmed with all the expectations and approval from others. I care more of what others think of me that what I think of myself and God's view of me. The people whom I want the most approval of are the ones that constantly reject me and the ones whom I don't care about their approval, they are the ones who love me the most- it makes no sense! We often determine our worth by how many friends we have, our appearance or how many activities we are involved in. None of that will even matter when we reach heaven. What will matter is our true relationship with God and what we did for Him. Tonight I was reading in my devotions and this line stuck out to me:

"Do you ever feel like you are expected to know stuff about Scripture? You're no expert. You just love Christ."

In Sunday school I never speak up because I'll say something stupid or my words will come out wrong. I'm afraid to pray in front of others because my prayers aren't long or intelligent. I feel like my relationship with God is growing, but I can't overcome what others will think of me when I speak my thoughts. Will they think my ideas are dumb? will I seem stupid if I don't know something? I feel like I have so much to learn and I am surely no expert when it comes to the Bible. I know the basic facts and I'm constantly growing- but I have a long way to go. I wish I could feel comfortable with other Christians, but I often feel like they know so much and I don't.

2 Corinthians 12:9
My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.

1 Peter 4:10
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

God doesn't expect us to go to Him with big long prayers with large words. He just wants a person who is willing to be used by Him and is sincere in their relationship with Him. He doesn't care if your prayers are eloquent and intelligent- He just wants the words to come from your heart. God doesn't need a person who is knowledgeable about the entire Bible to be used by Him. He can use anyone!! So don't feel inadequate if you don't feel like an expert when it comes to the Bible or knowing God. Nobody will ever fully understand everything- He just wants a obedient heart willing to follow after Him.

  1. We were talking about this on monday at my youth-group, and it is pretty true for me. You see all of these really great people, who can read scripture, and know it inside and out, and can pray lengthy, inspiring prayers. And I'm just sitting here like... I can't do anything! It's hard, but it's something I'm struggling with.

    1. Yeah, so true!!! it is hard, but even though those people know lots of stuff- it is also the fact that they apply it to their lives too. :) We don't have to be praying lengthy intelligent prayers or know Scripture inside out- that is good- but God still appreciates a person who is willing to learn and serve God!! Thanks for your comment Hannah!!

  5. Thank you so much for this post!!! I always use to feel inadequate compared to everyone else. I am so bad with 'big words' and I get tongue tied sometimes... People would make fun of me and I would feel so much doubt!! I had to learn that everyone isn't perfect and because I'm not at all great with speech I know I can go to God to help me. Like Moses did, because most of the time I feel like Moses..
Again thank you for this blog (I should do one on how I felt and how I fixed it now I think about it)!!!! :)
