The True Meaning of Easter

Easter is a day celebrated by Christians all over the world of a great day in history where a Man conquered death and bore our sins. A Man went through something so terrible that none of us could even fathom what it was like. Oh how I wish I could have been there that day to get just a glimpse of what our Savior did for us that day. I was supposed to be the one up on that cross for my sins, but Jesus went before me and offered Himself to take the great burden of not just my sins, but everyone's sins. He went through so much just for you and I and sometimes I am not as thankful as I should be. I don't appreciate and acknowledge what He did just for ME.

I remember the year the movie The Passion of the Christ came out my family went to see it. My eyes were opened to see just what Jesus had went through on the cross- and while the movie probably just caught a faint glimpse of what Jesus actually went through it really allowed me to understand Easter better. How I should be reminded all the time just how much that Man went through so we all could go to heaven and live with Him.

Why can I not do something so small for Him when He did something so truly amazing for me? Why am I so selfish and worry about myself when He was so selfless and did not do anything wrong but yet died for me? His love for us is not fair. He went through so much when we did not show love back to Him. How many times I take advantage of His love and His willingness to listen. I take advantage of my relationship with Him and ask for things that I don't need. Easter reminds me that Jesus did so much and I should be willing to do more for Him.

So I encourage you all (as I am trying to tell myself) don't just take advantage of God's love and your relationship with Him. Look back at that day in history when God did so much for you and be willing to stand up and live for Him. Look at His life as an example for your own and maybe if/when you see family or friends this weekend share God with them. You never know when you may not see that person again.

I thought this song might fit well with today's post- click HERE to listen to it. I love the references to the Bible. : )

I hope you all have a fabulous Easter and remember the true reason of why we celebrate it!
