My Views on Modesty

Well, I have had many requests for posting about my thoughts on modesty. I hope that what I say will encourage you : ) So here it goes...

I believe that I (being a christian girl who loves God and wanting to serve Him) should serve Him with my mind and my body. By doing this I should keep my mind pure and also keep my body pure as well. My body is a temple of God and I should clothe myself with His truths. Since I am serving the Lord with what I put on, I therefore should be dressing myself modestly and appropriately.

I don't want to deceive or allow anyone to get any wrong ideas by what I wear. I want to wear something that can make me look nice but still be honoring to God.
I never wear any low cut shirts or real short shorts because first of all, I don't like wearing them and second of all I personally think that they aren't honoring to God and give the wrong impression to others. I want to do all I can and represent God with what I wear.

We all often may not think that what we wear really impacts others or deceives people- but it does. People may get the wrong impression or look at us as a Christian and say "What is different about them from the rest of the world?" This is just my personal thought but aren't we supposed to be different from the world and not dress like the world does? I want to look different (and dress modestly) by what I wear so people can see that I am different inside too. And by dressing modestly we also look more professional and "well dressed" too.

Here are some verses that I found that relate to what I wrote above...

John 15:19
If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.

*** this verse is saying that we shouldn't be like the world. One way we we can be different from the world is by dressing modestly. We are chosen by God, so we should dress accordingly.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

***this verse is saying that we should treat our body as Christ's body. We should be clothing it how we think God would approve. Next time you put on something think to yourself- "if God saw me in this, would I be ashamed or feel sinful wearing this?"

I hope I wasn't too honest with my views on modesty. Let me know your thoughts on this subject as well! :) I'd be happy to hear what you all think as well.Let me know if you would like me to write on any other subjects. Hopefully I will be writing on purity shortly!

  1. I agree with you. Somehow good taste and good common sense seems to have gone out of style in this age we live in. In my opinion, clothing designers have nothing new to come up with for us so they keep making the same stuff and it's not even pretty. Clothes look messy just hanging on the racks and many people look like they got dressed in the dark! Bring back pretty, stylish, and feminine clothes for us females, please!!!

    1. You are so right and I agree completely- the fashion and style now days is so messy and totally doesn't match or look nice. Oh, haha....I wish I could bring back stylish and modest clothing but I can't think of a way for that to happen unfortunately - at least not that I know of! Thanks so much for dropping by Connie!!! :) So nice to hear from you!

  10. I COMPLETELY agree with everything you said on this subject!! I particularly like what you said about being different from the world and showing it with how we dress ourselves modestly. Our bodies are indeed the temple of the Lord and we should treat them as such and clothe ourselves properly and with modest apparel.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and posting this! No, I don't think you were too honest with your thoughts; your thinking is just as the Bible is on modesty. =)

A post on purity would be lovely! Can't wait for it!
