Hello! I had recently asked my sister if she could do a guest post on
my blog (she doesn't have a blog, by the way)- and so this is what she
came up with.....She is 21- I posted a picture of her just so you know
what she looks like :)
My
sister, Britt, asked me to write something for her blog and I said yes,
but I had difficulty finding what to write about. There are so many
things I could share with you, but I am just going to write about three
verses that may be familiar to you. These have helped me in times of
trouble or just stick out to me.
The first verse that I liked especially in high school was Psalm 119:105- "Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
This
explains to me that the Bible should be my guide through my life. when I
am having trouble with a particular issue in my life I will normally go
to the Bible and try to read about that subject and pray to God to help
me with the issue.
I look at the Bible as being a
letter from a friend, or even more a parent. I spent a year at college
and I know how happy I feel when I receive a letter from my family. I
also enjoy reading letters from someone who has died in my life and what
they wrote before the died (and feeling like they are close by). This
is the same feeling I get reading the Bible. Don't get me wrong- there
are times when I don't always feel like I want to read the Bible, but I
know I need to. Not because God makes me, but because if I don't- I will
grow farther away from God - and I don't want that. I want a close
relationship with Him. God's Word gets my life back on track and sets my
morals and look on life back where it should be.
Another verse I love is Jeremiah
29:11- which says "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord,
plans of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."
God
knows our future, whether it is good or bad. He knows what you will do
and what you will go through. He wants to help us through it and will be
there every step of the way and He will help you through your future if
you ask Him to.
I also like verse 12 which says "Then you will call upon me and go and pray to me and I will listen to you."
I
like this verse because it is personal. When we pray to God at any time
(when we are saved) God listens to us. This is special because not
everyone listens when someone gives you their time- especially now days.
By both of these verses God is always thinking the best for you and
will always be there to listen to your needs or joys.
And lastly, Proverbs
3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own
understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your
paths straight."
My great Uncle gave me a painting (that he
painted) of a collie that had this verse on it. About 7 years ago I had
to get operated on (major back surgery) and before I got it done I
looked up at that painting above my bed.
Thinking about
those words are one thing, but actually trusting Him with everything
can be hard. There is a saying that says "trust needs to be earned."
While this is true- we have to trust God without even seeing Him face to
face. Trusting God in every area of my life is sometimes not the first
thing on my mind. I try to figure out things on my own or take things
into my own hands instead of just letting things happen and letting God
take control.
In this particular time in my life I
remember being very calm for going into surgery. I believe it was from
the Holy Spirit giving me the peace I needed. there are things and
situations I do not know why I am going through them, but I do know that
God knows and wants me to go through it for a particular reason, maybe
to bring me closer to Him or even to build my character.
Awesome post! Very true and written from your heart! Those verses are amazing!!! I love how you described the bible as a letter from a friend--so true!
