Distractions

Do you ever feel distracted? Do you ever feel like things are stealing your focus? Sometimes we have to take a few steps back and look at our lives from afar to realize all the things we allow to distract us. I know I let so many things steal my focus and attention. Things that I let determine my happiness and my mood. Things that I allow to take authority over God.

There are so many things that can distract us from God and it is so easy to get caught up in what this world constantly throws at us every day: who we should be, how much money we should make, how many friends we have, our job position, where we live, etc. Sometimes we get set in a mode and we focus so much on one thing that it begins to overtake our life. Often I get this way with work- I get so occupied in what I need to get done that everything else gets put on hold. There have been many times that I have put more effort into my work than in my relationship with God. I've put people and family above God and let their view overtake how God sees me.

Our lives here are not about who can reach the top first or how many people love us. It's not about how successful we are or what people think of us, it's more than that. We were placed here to show God's love to others and be a light for Him. I want so much more to my life than a lofty job title or having the most friends on facebook. I want my life to be remembered as someone who genuinely showed God's love to others and encouraged them. I want to be someone who would be recognized as a godly example and used my talents and gifts for God and not just for my benefit. This life isn't about how much I can get out of it, but how much of it I can use for God's glory and bring Him honor.

This life and the desires of this world will pass away, they will be burned up, but what we have done for God will be refined and will withstand. The distractions we are faced with here often blind us and draw our focus off God, and they do a pretty good job of it. Choose to remain focused and not let the distractions draw you away from God. Remain strong, dedicated and determined to stay on track. Don't let the distractions of this life get a hold of you. Focus on the One who will always remain the same and will never fade away.

2 Corinthians 4:18
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

  2. Getting distracted is something I have been struggling with a lot recently. I've been trying to teach myself to catch it before I get too off course and immediately ask God to help me refocus on Him--the most important thing in my life. Thanks so much for this post! It was very encouraging!
