Transforming

Sometimes I like to look back over my life and recall memories from the past. Sometimes I'll laugh at the things that seemed so important, smile at the good times and cry at the things that hurt my heart. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and relive those enjoyable memories once more because they brought joy to my life when I feel a void of happiness now. It is always nice reliving those memories in my head though.

It is interesting to see how our lives transform overtime. We go through ups and downs and twists and turns. Some leaving us broken and others strengthening us. Sometimes the things we experience seem to be breaking us apart, but in the large spectrum everything is showing us how strong we are and how we react when bad things come our way.

It's neat to look back over your life and see how God has transformed us through each stage of life. From an infant to your first day of kindergarten. From elementary school to your high school graduation. From high school to college graduation. From college to your first job...and so on. I like to see how I've grown and what I've learned as I've become older. Often I ask myself "have you become any wiser? any stronger? closer to God?" Sometimes God's transformation in certain seasons of my life aren't always for the better. I go off-track and lose my focus. Sometimes I feel like when I take a step forward I end up taking a few steps back in mistakes and failures. Even through the mistakes I've made it teaches me determination and knowledge. Knowledge to try harder next time and that all things worthwhile take time.

God is transforming you in your life too. Your transformations in your life may not always be progressing upward, but they are shaping you into the person you are created to be. Often how you respond in the most difficult of circumstances really shows your true character and truly shapes you the most.

We often seek to change things in our lives to make us happy and bring us enjoyment. If we don't like something we want to change it to make our life better. We want to make ourselves happy and by changing our circumstances we think it will solve our attitude. Often I think "If only I had 'this' then I would be happy." In some cases I've gotten what I've wished for and realized that whatever it was truly didn't bring me the satisfaction I thought it would. We as humans can never be truly content with our lives for very long. I think it is because we base our happiness on things that we can lose. Things that can change.

I want to base my life on things that won't change. I want to base my life on what is true. What will far outlast my life here on this earth. I want my life to be focused on God, Someone who will always remain the same. No changes. No rejection. When something doesn't go my way and circumstances are hard I want to overcome them and rely on the One in my life that always remains the same. The One who has never left my side or given up on me when I gave up on myself.

When changes come in your life, and they most always will, go to the One who has been steadfast all along. Lean on Him and let Him guide you through the uncertain road that lies ahead. Learn through your mistakes and seek wisdom with the choices that you make. Changes may be hard, but when we trust God with our circumstances we know that we are being transformed into something amazing and just what God called us to become.

  1. This is quite powerful. I've been through some troubles in my life that could have left me bitter, in the end, but I've decided to go against it instead. Transformation... It's huge.

  3. Thank you so much for this post!
I especially love how you said you want to base your life on something that will outlast your life on earth. Not that finding happiness on earth is bad, but often times it's just temporary, when we can find true happiness in Christ and rely on Him!
