A Dark Future

Sometimes the future is hard to look to. We get worried. We get depressed. We get disappointed. Right now my future is scary, hard and dark. In a few short days I have to go back to college already. Knowing what is waiting for me there has really been hurting my heart a lot lately. I thought I'd post some song lyrics that have applied to my life right now....

Got so much on your mind
Nothing's really going right
Lookin for a ray of hope
-Overcomer by Mandisa

Something else that has been so very difficult lately is trying to take a step back and stop trying to be perfect and delving too deeply into what others think of me. I have gotten so caught up in what some people think of me that I fail to see myself for who I am and their thoughts determine my happiness and joy. Nobody should define us except God. Nobody should define our joy or happiness but God. How many times I have allowed other's actions and words towards me to make me feel insignificant, inferior, unworthy, unloveable and unqualified. But we are all special. We all are equally loved by God. Listening to this song earlier today allowed me to finally grasp the meaning of this song by what I had been feeling the past few days.

Don't try so hard
God gives you grace and you can't earn it, don't think that you're not worth it
Because you are
He gave you His love and He's not leaving
Gave you His Son so you'd believe it
You're lovely even with your scars
-Don't try so hard by Amy Grant

Even when our future looks dark. When we feel like we have nothing to look forward to. When we feel lonely and uncared for we can remember all that God has done for us in the past. And we can remember all the people that have loved us and been there for us. Even when things seem hard and the going gets lonely remember that God's always with you. He will never forsake you or stop loving you. Last night in my devotions I read that God never changes. It is so nice to remember that no matter how many changes we go through or how many things change around us we will still have the unchanging love and character of God that will never fail or forsake us!

Psalm 102:25-27
In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth and the heavens are the work of Your hands.
They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment.
But You remain the same, and Your years will never end.
