A Special Prayer In The Garden

Happy Palm Sunday Y'all!

It's weird how next Sunday is Easter- it doesn't even seem possible!! So today I learned something at church and I just thought I would share it with all of you since it really impacted me:

********************
Luke 22:39-46
Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.
On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”
He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.
And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them.
“Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”

********************

These verses are based in the garden of Gethsemane (you can still visit it today, which would be such an awesome place to visit!). But anyways, Jesus went here the night before His crusifiction and prayed asking if God could ease His suffering (since He knew He was going to be crusified the next day). I can't imagine the pain knowing what would happen in the future- knowing what would occur. That would be so terrifying. But God sent an angel and comforted Him even through all the fear and turmoil He was experiencing. I am sure the disciples were wondering what Jesus was "up to" when He needed some time alone and withdrew from them to pray in the garden alone.

The thoughts that must have run through Jesus's mind- He must have known what exactly was going to happen and all the pain He was going to experience. I think that would have been awful- and nobody else could comfort Him but God. Nobody else understood except God. Isn't that awesome! God knows your pains too and He will help comfort you in times of struggle and trial too. We just have to go to Him and ask for His guidance and strength.

Well, I hope you all have a great rest of your day! Thanks for dropping by!! : )

  1. This is beautiful. I never really realized until recently that crucifixion was a common way of death back then...Jesus probably had seen someone crucified before. I cannot even remotely IMAGINE the fear you would experience, knowing that the next day, your fate was to be crucified on a cross. I just seriously cannot imagine it at all, and it hurts me immensely to know that Jesus had to face that! Many were crucified, but Jesus was the only one to come back! These are the lyrics for the song "Garden" by needtobreathe. It's a wonderful song that is about the moment when Jesus prayed.

    "Garden" by needtobreathe
Won't you take this cup from me
Cause fear has stolen all my sleep
    If tomorrow means my death
Pray you'll save their souls with it

Let the songs I sing bring joy to you
Let the words I say confess my love
Let the notes I choose be your favorite tune
Father let my heart be after you

In this hour of doubt I see
Who I am is not just me
So give me strength to die myself
So love can live to tell the tale

Let the songs I sing bring joy to you
Let the words I say confess my love
Let the notes I choose be your favorite tune
Father let my heart be after you

    Father let my heart be
    For you
    For you
    For you
    For you

Let the songs I sing bring joy to you
Let the words I say confess my love
Let the notes I choose be your favorite tune
Father let my heart be after you

Father let my heart be after you
