My Appearance Doesn't Define Me

My appearance doesn't define me. The way I look doesn't reveal who I am inside. It may show who I am and my sense of style, but it doesn't reveal the personality within me. It doesn't reveal the emotions I have or the feelings I experience. It doesn't determine the love I give or the hurt I've felt. My appearance doesn't define me.

So many times I feel like I'm not beautiful or pretty in anyone's eyes. yeah, my mom tells me I look pretty, but it somehow doesn't seem the same as hearing it from someone else. Sometimes I let my appearance define who I am- I let my appearance make me feel insecure and it hinders me from being myself. You know how the saying goes- "don't judge a book by it's cover" well that goes for people as well....we shouldn't judge others by their appearance or how they look. God created each and every one of us- and God thinks we are beautiful and fantastic just the way we are. And with all of my heart I'm glad that He is the one who thinks I look beautiful out of everyone! : )

I really have to agree with the "ugly personality destroys the face" quote. I have met some very beautiful people, but their actions, words and terrible attitude really does destroy their outer appearance. That is different with a person who has a beautiful heart, but may not look as attractive on the outside. When you get to know people better, you look past their appearances and you focus more on their character and not their appearance. I'd much rather have a better character than appearance. But it sure would be nice to have both! (I have to admit!)

Don't doubt your beauty- God created you PERFECT! He wants you exactly the way you are so don't go changing for the world or anyone, well.... except God! : ) Be proud of who you are and don't doubt your appearance- it doesn't define you. Your character does!

  1. Britt, thank you so much for this post! I have felt the same way as you. Sometimes I think I'm not pretty and looking up Bible verses about true beauty really helps me! It's the heart the counts the most <3
