Guest Post by My Sister {self confidence}

Hi there :) I am Leah, Britt’s sister and we did family devotions on confidence. So I wrote and found some information on confidence that I thought may help you through your journey of life. There are times when I know I lack in confidence, but after discussing this as a family and personally in my life, I may still not have much confidence, but it has grown since then. Let’s start out with some verses that mention confidence.

Hebrews 10:35-36
“Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.”

Psalm 139 13-14
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”

Joshua 1:9
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

I John 5:14-15
“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.”

I looked up the definition of confidence because I was curious to see exactly what this word means. I was surprised in what I read.

The definition of confidence -
the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust. The state of feeling certain about the truth of something.

***It was interesting that it says that it is relying on someone or something and that it needs trust.***

Philippians 3:3
“Have no confidence in the flesh”

Proverbs 14:16
references that the righteous men go away from evil, but fools gets angry in his confidence

Psalm 118:8-9
It is better to trust in the Lord than put confidence in man. If we put confidence in our money, friends, government, or ourselves we will be disappointed. However, if we trust God we will never be ashamed or dissatisfied because He is perfect and He knows what is the best for you as an individual.

God has confidence in you and loves you the way you are because He made you how he wants you to feel and act. He chose circumstances for you to go through and your life is unique. He doesn’t care what others think of you. He is only interested in His relationship with you.

Think of Moses (Exodus 3:11) He said- “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.” Like Moses was once a prince, he was so humbled and scared to go back to his home in Egypt he said, What if they do not believe me or listen to me and also I have never been eloquent (expressive/persuasive), neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue (Exodus 4:10)

God told Moses, “Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go: I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”

Don’t be discouraged some are more hidden than others and some may have more than us but that doesn’t mean that they are more important or special. This may sound stupid, but what I thought of when I was on this topic was my stuffed animals. When I was younger, and even now, I treat them as my little friends. I talk to them (when no one else is around) hehe and when no one is around that may understand my feelings I know they will listen. They don’t have to do anything, just having them there is what is important. God is the same way, we never have to do anything for Him to love us, He already does. We don’t have to be perfect at everything for God to love us. He already has, does, and always will. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t do anything either, but for this subject the point is that we don’t have to do anything for God to love us any more than if we did.

Another thing to boost your confidence is that God loves you so much that He wants you to be His daughter/son. How many people do you know that you would be willing to have in your family? They would have to be pretty special right? He loves everyone, but only a handful He chooses to create to be in His family. He wants you to live with Him forever. Wow! You have to love someone a lot to want both of those things.

God could have designed you any way He wanted- it wouldn’t have been hard to change you in any way just by a word. Why would He create you in a way that didn’t match up with the bigger picture for your life?
Go out and believe not in yourself, but God living through you and your life will change and so will your confidence : )
